In the spring of 1763, a confederation of Native American tribes led by the Ottawa war chief Pontiac launched a surprise attack on British forts and settlements across the Ohio Valley. The uprising, known as Pontiac's War, was the largest and most widespread Native American uprising in American history. It lasted for over a year and resulted in the deaths of hundreds of British soldiers and settlers.

Farewell to Calm tells the story of Pontiac's War from its origins in the Ohio Valley to its bloody climax at the siege of Fort Detroit. Drawing on a wealth of primary sources, historian David Dixon paints a vivid portrait of the conflict, its causes, and its consequences. Dixon's narrative is rich in detail and human drama, and it offers a fresh perspective on one of the most important events in American history.

Farewell to Calm is a must-read for anyone interested in American history, Native American studies, or the frontier era. It is a powerful and moving account of a conflict that forever changed the relationship between Native Americans and European settlers.
