A History of Ireland: The Irish

Cumann Na NGaedheal Leaders W.T. Cosgrave, Kevin O'Higgins, And Eoin O'Duffy Afterimage Of The Revolution: Cumann Na NGaedheal And Irish Politics 1922 1932 (History Of Ireland The Irish Diaspora)

Cumann na nGaedheal was a political party in Ireland that was founded in 1922 by W.T. Cosgrave, Kevin O'Higgins, and Eoin O'Duffy. The party was the dominant force in Irish politics from 1922 to 1932, and it played a key role in the Irish Civil War and the establishment of the Irish Free State.

Cumann na nGaedheal was a conservative party that supported the Anglo-Irish Treaty and the Irish Free State. The party was opposed to the Irish Republican Army (IRA) and its goal of a united Ireland. Cumann na nGaedheal also supported economic development and social reform.

The party's most prominent leaders included W.T. Cosgrave, who served as President of the Executive Council of the Irish Free State from 1922 to 1932, and Kevin O'Higgins, who served as Minister for Justice from 1922 to 1927. Cumann na nGaedheal also had a strong base of support in the Irish countryside.

In 1932, Cumann na nGaedheal was defeated by Fianna Fáil in the general election. Fianna Fáil was a more radical party that opposed the Anglo-Irish Treaty and supported a united Ireland. Cumann na nGaedheal never regained power, and it was eventually dissolved in 1933.

Cumann na nGaedheal was a significant force in Irish politics during the 1920s and 1930s. The party played a key role in the Irish Civil War and the establishment of the Irish Free State. Cumann na nGaedheal also supported economic development and social reform.
