About the Author
Samuel Coleridge was born in Ottery St. Mary, Devon, England, in 1772. He was the son of a clergyman, and he attended Christ's Hospital school in London. Coleridge was a brilliant student, and he went on to attend Jesus College, Cambridge. However, he left Cambridge without taking a degree, and he began a career as a poet and journalist.
Coleridge was a leading figure in the Romantic movement, and he is best known for his poems "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner," "Kubla Khan," and "Christabel." He also wrote a number of plays, essays, and philosophical works. Coleridge was a heavy user of opium, and his addiction had a significant impact on his life and work.
Coleridge died in Highgate, London, in 1834. He is buried in the churchyard of St. Michael's Church, Highgate.
